Malaria is endemic to the Mpumalanga region of the country including Sabi Sand Game Reserve and the Kruger National Park.

We are on the edge of the Malaria belt, thus although very uncommon, we are in a malaria area. We don’t believe that we have ever had a guest who contracted Malaria whilst at Sabi Sand Game Reserve.

Notwithstanding this, in the interests of your personal safety we recommend that precautions be taken. Please consult your physician for further information on the various anti-malarial prophylactics available.

For additional information on the malaria situation in this region, you can also contact the Kruger National Park MALARIA HOTLINE on + 27 (0)83 900 8424

These are some of the precautionary measures you can take to avoid being bitten by mosquitoes:
Use insect repellent on exposed skin. Lotions and spray options are available.
Spray your accommodation with an aerosol insecticide. The lodge does have aerosol available in the rooms as well as plug in repellents
Wear long-sleeved, light-coloured clothing, long trousers and socks.

We strongly recommend that all guests are the beneficiary of a travel insurance policy covering at least injury, death, medical costs, emergency evacuation, repatriation, loss or damage to personal belongings (due to theft or otherwise) and cancellation.
